Sketch on the Side

I've got a bit of spare time this week as I'm not shooting so I thought I'd plan another micro film. Here's a first draft for a sketch I had in mind.

2nd Day Edit

Here's the second day's edit. This turned out better than the first day, mostly because we only used primes so the picture looks a lot nicer. We also introduced a 50 ml lens. From now on I will only use the 28 and 50 ml primes for this film.

1st Day Edit

Here's the first edit from day one. I rendered it without sound just because that is a slightly different task, being currently tackled by my sound guy. All the sound we recorded on the boom turned out very well anyway. I am very pleased with the first day's shooting and thus this is most probably pretty close to the final edit.

Day Three

Here are the shooting scripts, shot list and call sheet for day three of shooting.

Day Two Redone

Due to one of my actors pulling out at the last minute we had to reschedule things. Here's day two, redone.

Call Sheets, Schedules & Kit Lists

I have done a combined call sheet, schedule, prop/costume and kitlist for days one and two. So there will be more on the way. I based it on a call sheet that I received for a low budget music video I crewed on two summers ago.

3rd Run Through: George

I did some further work with Peter/George, here are some extracts.

2nd Run Through: Nadia

Here's an extract from my first run through with Trudy/Nadia.

Master Shotlist

Here's the shotlist for the entire film apart from the first scene. Each shot is in the order that it is going to be shot in. The gaps between shots are where one can conveniently break i.e where one can shoot on a separate day. In theory all shots can be shot on separate days but in order to save any risks to continuity (especially via the weather), I will do my level best to stick to the plan. As I may have mentioned earlier I haven't storyboarded or shotlisted any of the first scene in the house because I want to wait till the rest of the film is shot and see how it looks so that I can make sure the first scene's style fits with the rest of the film. In my head at the moment the first scene feels quite different to the rest of the film and so in order to match the first scene stylistically I want to know what the rest of the film looks like on camera first.

1st Run Through

Here's an extract from my first run though with the guy I've cast as Peter. Sadly there isn't any sound. Still we didn't do anything exciting, just a read through and general talking about his character.

3rd Test

Here's a test I did with a wheelchair working as a substitute to a stedicam.

Briefings

So that all the key members of my crew know how much time everything will take and so that they can work their schedules around the film's schedule, I have given them a fully comprehensive outline of what they will be required to do and how long it will take. This is to prevent against any last minute drop outs i.e if my crew know in advance what is needed, the day/night before I won't be met with "I don't think I can make it" texts.

Tests for Others

I filmed a number of bits of footage so that I can give them to my post and sound guys to test things out.

Firstly here's a job for my post production guy Johnny who I will most probably need to make the weather conditions match up when shooting on different days. Here are some quite different skies.

And here are some tests for my sound man, he'll have the task of creating a fake answering machine message, and a phone receiving texts and calls.

2nd Test

And here's a test for the montage sequence I've got planned. This is just have a look at staging and how the combination of different speeds works with the music. I will probably use this track in the final edit.

1st Test

I did a little test of the the first outdoor scenes up to the montage sequence (across pages 3-7).

2nd Storyboard Chat

And here's an extract from our second storyboard discussion.

1st Storyboard Chat

Here's an extract from the first half of my chat with my D.P about my storyboard. Here I went through every single shot with him, with us discussing alternatives and ways of shooting as we went.

2nd Audition

To try out some more potentials for Trudy I got hold of two more girls and had a read through. I ended up choosing the first of the two below. Here are some extracts.

1st Audition

Here is the first audition we had. After a warm up we paired people up and then got them to switch roles so we could try different people on different roles. Here are some extracts from the afternoon.
